5 Stars Very addictive workout series!
Before I start of praising this series I would like to say that before starting to work with these DVD’s I have had bellydancing lessons for half a year, once a week. And I think it’s very recommendable to take lessons first so you know how everything works and are actually able to keep up with this. It’s really meant for beginners and not people who aren’t beginners yet.
This serie was reccomended to me by some of my bellydance class mates and my bellydance teacher, who actually learned from Suhaila herself.
I think Suhaila is a wonderful teacher and the workouts are just perfect, sometimes I even do two a day just because I like them and because they really work. I haven’t lost much weight since I started two weeks ago but the shape of my body has changed and I’m starting to change sizes. Also I feel very fit and energized and everyday movements are starting to cost me less energy. My bellydancing teacher also noticed that I was picking up things easier and suggested to make some of the excercises harder for myself because they weren’t really hard anymore.
One thing I really like about these DVD’s is that she really seems to know what difficulties you might be having during the work outs. For example she knows if something takes up a lot of concentration you might forget to breath. She pinpoints the exact moments I’m having those problems, very well done!
Once again, these DVD’s are not meant for people with no bellydance experience at all. But for people like me who have already started out, it’s great, her speed is quite scary sometimes but I suggest to just take it at your own pace. I love the fusion with other disciplines!
4 Stars Good value, but not truly a beginner series
I’ve been enrolled in a bellydance class in my city, taught by a woman who is certified (level 3) in the Suhaila method. She’s fabulous, and true to the technique in the videos. However, I think that if the video were my first exposure to these muscle isolations, I would be lost. Suhaila simply doesn’t provide a lot of explanation. The production value is good, in that the camera is steady, does helpful closeups on Suhaila as well as the other women in her class, and the audio is good, but there really isn’t a lot of guidance on form provided verbally. Of course, if you can imitate well (and have a mirror in which to look at yourself), then you’ll be fine. In any case, I can follow along pretty well since I’ve had an intro in person in my local class, and I do like the videos. Keep in mind that this is not a cardio workout; it will be great for increasing your muscle control of specific groups, and will enhance your body awareness and possibly flexibility as well. Also, the performances at the end of each video are beautiful, sensual and an inspiring.
5 Stars Excellent drills - but not really beginner
Suhaila is an excellent teacher and her technique is known all over the world. Her students are fanatics. I can see why! She does some very original exercises that help target muscles that help in dance. I can see how this DVD series would be frustrating for beginners, but for those with a little expeience, you should totally consider buying this.
4 Stars GOOD WORK OUT
I ordered this set and i love it, yes some moves are a little hard but great cardio workout!.
4 Stars Oo… A pretty workout!
The problem I have with most workouts that are dances is that the dances tend to not be very good. If they look bad on the professionals doing them, or at least are not interesting, why would *you* want to do them? The obvious answer is that you won’t. So, when I saw the moves for these set of DVDs, I had to have them. They are feminine, beautiful, and leave me feeling like I’m elegant and fit when I’m done. The only reason they don’t get five stars from me is because the moves are a little tricky (as in, if you haven’t done them before, just watching the DVD you won’t be able to get them on the first try because it isn’t clear what’s happening). If you really want it, the moves aren’t *hard*; there just isn’t any instruction of what you should feel if you’re doing it right. She just says, “Do
So, I was disappointed by the lack of instruction and by the boring interviews (boring because they looked completely scripted and unnatural to me), but otherwise absolutely LOVE this DVD set and would recommend it to any of my friends in a heart-beat.
